747 East Bethany Home Road Association
Minutes for Board Meeting of November 6, 1997
Attendees: Rosie O'Meara, John Bonar, David Cronin, Marie Martel, Jan Ehn, Mike Smith, Agnes Woodworth, Donald and Rosalie Simmons.
1. There was no open meeting in October because the Board had to hold several meetings to confer on the selection of a contractor for balcony and facia repair.
2. Newell Construction was chosen for the work. Repairs to the balconies and garages are nearing completion. Five of the balcony floors were in need of replacement and the board approved application of 5 polyurethane floors. Two residents have opted to have the floors applied at their own expense. We expect the project to be finished within the next 2 weeks.
3. John Bonar is still negotiating with US West about their promise to slurry seal the streets where they dug. And he is nearly ready with bids to fix the driveway at 5806.
4. APS has removed the two palm trees at our entrance and they have ground the stumps. Rosie O'Meara persuaded them to give us two trees to replace ours. The Board decided to try to sell them for $300. to help defray our recent expenditures.
5. The pool gate locking mechanism needs repair, the 8th Place street signpost needs to be primed and painted and several post lamps need new sockets. Mike Smith volunteered to remove the old pillar stumps from the pool area.
6. PLEASE BE SURE TO LOCK THE BACK GATE AFTER YOU GO THROUGH!
The next Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 4, 7:00 pm at the pool. Please come.
Arizona Senior World - October 1997
That Neighborhood Nazi article draws another letter of protest
To the editors:
The July 1997 Arizona Senior World carried a strongly worded Opinion piece which criticized neighbors who attempt to follow the CC&Rs of their area, and also try to convince others to similarly follow CC&RS, regulations, ordinances and matters of just plain common sense.
The neighbors who Susan P, Smith so roundly criticizes, appear to actually be doing her and everyone else involved a great service and favor. CC&R are s designed to keep a neighborhood looking attractive and well-cared for. These activists are no doubt keeping up the value of their own property and the value of Ms. Smith’s Property as well by their attention and concern. Frankly, she should be handling them!
As a matter of fact, obeying CC8rRs is not a matter of personal preference. CC&Rs are a recorded obligation and each homeowner signifies acceptance of these rules when they purchase their home. (And the obligation extends to their tenants.) Why buy a home and then deliberately set out to undermine the very neighborhood standards one . I?
agreed to,
many neighborhoods would become veritable parking lots of RVs, trailers, boats. extra vehicles, cars-under-repair, and eventually cars-beyond-repair, if CC&Rs did not prohibit this. in this and countless other ways, neighborhood appearance and quality-of-life are enhanced by well written and well enforced CC&RS.
Do I detect a tone of juvenile rebellion in this letter? Do I hear the voice of one who contributes and builds up, or the voice of one who simply sits on the sidelines and carps, criticizes, finds fault, and undermines the efforts of others?
