747 East Bethany Home Road Association

Board Minutes-October 18, 1994

The meeting began with all board members or subs being present. The previous month's minutes and treasurer's report were presented and approved.

Old Business:

*Sherry reported to the board that Jan Ehn and herself had researched the plant dilemma for the front flower beds. After some discussion the board decided to allow $100.00 for the purchase of perennials and some inexpensive yet colorful flowers. We'll be enjoying them soon.

*Final bids will be gotten this month for the resealing and firelane striping the roadway. A discussion ensued considering different painting and signing options for the no-parking firelane. Also no-parking violation repercussions were discussed and tabled until next month. Please, we all know the rules-don't make the board makes decisions that no one will like.

*It was reported that the Block Watch sign order was delayed but should be here soon.

New Business:

*John Bonar (Unit #5812) submitted an architectural blueprint and a letter of rational for a patio cover to be constructed by a named licensed contractor. It was very professionally done and in accordance with the CC & R's. The board reviewed the documents and approved the project.

*The annual contracts for both the garbage pickup service and the Association insurance are about to expire. The board agreed that everything is satisfactory and will extend both contracts for another year. NOTE: The garbage company will pick up large items, such as dishwashers, etc., at no charge if they are called a day in advance. Contact BFI Garbage Company.

* It was also decided to remove the dead tree along the East wall if in fact it's dead. Trust me-it's dead!

**We all would like to welcome a new occupant and owner of unit #5813 (formerly Arlene Schreckengost's unit). Robin comes to us from Dayton, Ohio and is a sister of Kathi Kjolhede (5802). The complex will never be the same again. Robin, welcome to 747 EBHRA and enjoy Arizona!

WARNING: This last week a man in his early 20's came to our door at midnight claiming to have a hurt child and asked for a ride and then money for a taxi. I called the police the next day, explained what had transpired and gave a description of the individual. These scams of asking for money using many different stories have become very common throughout the city. If this happens to you, don't let them in, give them no money and call the police. As we all know from our Block Watch information, if you see someone or something that looks suspicious-call the police.

*With the onset of cool evenings and the being the romanticists that I know you all are, a crackling fire sounds inviting. Before you start your first one, it is a good idea to contact a chimney sweep. It's inexpensive and could save a call to the fire department. Also, don't store your wood inside or right next to your house. It makes an inviting haven for termites which will then transfer their little homes into your walls.

The next meeting is scheduled for November 15 at 7:00. Have a great month!

Bits of Info: Repairing Damaged Drywall

Joint compound for dents. Clean off loose edges. Dip knife into compound sideways and load about half the blade width. Pull knife across dented area with a slow smooth stroke. Position knife at a 90-degree angle to the first stroke and pull across again to remove excess compound. When dry, sand to finish.

Iron-on patches for small holes. These patches are a new method for repairing small flaws in drywall. Cut the polymer fabric to size and iron with a household iron set at medium heat. Apply compound over fabric and sand when the compound has dried. Always wear a dust mask while sanding joint compound.
